The Sierpe mangrove tour takes place in the largest mangrove forest in Central America. It can be done from Drake Bay or Sierpe town. This forest is of great importance because of its diversity of flora and fauna. It also hosts all the species of mangrove trees that exist in Costa Rica. Mangroves are ecosystems in constant change due to tides. The mangrove area is protected by the Costa Rican law. There are very nice places to visit during the Sierpe mangrove tour. One of them is the “Birds Rock”, a splendid place that hosts a variety of seabirds, some of which are local species and others are seasonal visitors that pass by or nest and breed in this area. The mangroves are also the home of a number of other animals such as crocodiles, boas constrictor, sloths, capuchins, howler monkey and squirrel monkey.
This tour can start from Drake Bay or Sierpe. It takes about five hours and can begin in the morning or in the afternoon. From Drake Bay, we depart from the beach, but if your hotel is right on the beach, we can pick you up from there and bring you back. If your hotel is far away from the beach, we can help you get a taxi to the beach and back to your hotel. Private tours are more expensive, please book in advance to arrange the activity either privately or in the group.
